R_Van_Spaendonck Internationally renowned as soloïst clarinettist, Ronald Van Spaendonck is considered one of the best of his generation. His teachers were Léon Jacot, Walter Boeykens, Anthony Pay (Londres) and Karl Leister (Berlin). After 12 years in the Orchestre National de Belgique, he turned into a teacher himself.

He became professor of clarinet in 2000 at Arts de Mons, in 2003 at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, in 2013 at the École normale de musique of Paris and in 2018 at the Musica Mundi School of Waterloo.
He is also professor honoris causa of the Conservatory of Guangzhou (China) since 2008 and, since 2016, artistic director of the Festival de Lasne.

Ronald is a founding member of the Ensemble Kheops (2006) and he regularly performs all over the world with this musical group described as having ‘variable geometry’

Ronald Van Spaendonck played in the biggest venues in the world with Belgian orchesters like the Orchestre royal de chambre de Wallonie, Orchestre philharmonique royal de Liège, Brabants Orkest, Orchestre National de Belgique, but also with prestigious international groups like the Orquestra Clássica de Porto, Orchestre National de France, Les violons du Roy, Orchestre de la ville de Ouluen (Finland), Orchestre de la Tonhalle (Zürich), Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester (Berlin,) Orchestre Simon Bolivar (Venezuela) andnOrchestre de Sao Paulo (Brésil).

Ronald Van Spaendonck won many national and international awards:

  • 1988 Lauréat du Concours du Crédit Communal (Pro Civitate, Belfius classics).
  • 1988 Lauréat de l'European Youth Competition à Zürich et Prix spécial de l'œuvre imposée par Jean Binet.
  • 1990 Premier prix du Concours International TROMP à Eindhovenen.
  • 1990 Premier prix du Concours International de Dos Hermanas(Séville).
  • 1991 Lauréat du concours Tenuto et prix spécial du public.
  • 1991 lauréat de la fondation « Juventus ».
  • 1995 Premier prix du Concours International pour Instruments à Vent A.Gi. Mus à Rome
  • 1995 lauréat de la Fondation Spes.
  • 1998 Prix « Rising star ». Il jouera en compagnie d'Alexandre Tharaud dans des salles prestigieuses telles que le Concertgebouw d'Amsterdam, le Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, le Musikverein de Vienne, le Megaro Mousikis d'Athènes, la Philharmonie de Paris, le Wigmore Hall de Londres.
  • 2000 BBC New Generation Artist. Il se produit avec le BBC Scottish Symphony, BBC National Orchestra of Waleset le BBC Philharmonic Orchestra notamment aux incontournables (PROMS), au Wigmore Hall et au très prestigieux Festival International de Musique d'Edimbourg en Écosse.
  • 2002 New artist Series "JAL" classic special prize. Il joue au Suntory Hall de Tokyo avec le pianiste Jérôme Ducros.
  • 2014 Trophée «Fuga» attribué par l'"union des compositeurs belges" pour la diffusion et la promotion de la musique belge.
  • 2018 Prix DARCHE FRERES (attribué par la Commission du Patrimoine du Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles) réservé à un musicien dont toute la vie est consacrée avec honneur et dévouement au service de l’art musical.
